At Windyway, we understand that pets are cherished members of the family. In challenging times, ensuring their well-being, particularly access to nutritious food, can become a significant concern for many households.
It was with this understanding that the Windyway Pet Food Bank was established in 2021. Since then, we have seen an ever-increasing need for our services within the local community.
The Windyway Pet Food Bank is a crucial resource designed to provide essential support to pet owners facing financial hardship. We believe that no pet should go hungry, and no owner should have to make the heartbreaking choice between feeding themselves and feeding their beloved animal companion. Our dedicated volunteers work tirelessly to alleviate this burden, offering a lifeline to hundreds of pets and their families.
Our Pet Food Bank operates every Saturday morning from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Windyway Trust Centre. During these sessions, we provide a comprehensive range of pet food and essential accessories.
The demand for our services is consistently high, reflecting the current economic climate and the unwavering commitment of pet owners to their animals. On an average Saturday morning, our volunteers distribute an impressive volume of provisions, including:
Beyond sustenance, we also strive to support the overall welfare of pets by offering a selection of good quality second-hand pet accessories. This includes practical items such as leads, bowls, collars, coats, brushes, and pet-safe shampoo. These offerings not only help pet owners manage the costs associated with pet care but also promote the comfort and hygiene of their animals.
The reach of our Pet Food Bank continues to grow. We currently have over 100 individuals registered with us, collectively supporting nearly 300 pets. This significant number underscores the vital role the Pet Food Bank plays in fostering responsible pet ownership and preventing animals from being relinquished due to financial strain.
In addition to our food and accessory provisions, the Windyway Pet Food Bank also serves as a point of access for vouchers for neutering.
We strongly advocate for responsible pet ownership, and neutering is a cornerstone of this philosophy, helping to control pet overpopulation, reduce the number of unwanted animals, and improve the overall health and well-being of individual pets. These vouchers aim to make this essential veterinary procedure more accessible to those who might otherwise struggle with the cost.
